Experience
Hi, I'm Asil, and I love math! I am a full-time teacher in Detroit. My favorite part of the day is the time at the end where I get to sit with each student and discuss the lesson plan we just studied. I enjoy seeing the lightbulbs go off after I can shed some light on what we learned. I strive to make math come alive. Math surrounds us, but it isn't always obvious. I use inquiry-based learning, which allows my students to discover concepts through activities and experiments, rather than just being told how to do it. I also use real-world application. I understand that each student learns differently as I was once an English language learner. I provide my students with whatever aids they need to learn a concept.I graduated from Austin College, a liberal arts college in Texas. I am passionate about math and current events, so I pursued a dual degree in Economics and Political Science. I have been working for a nonprofit organization in Dallas working with school districts to adopt the best practices in literacy. I worked with immigrant elementary students that struggled with writing and reading. Currently, I teach sixth-grade math, eleventh-grade ACT math prep, and twelfth-grade business math. I look forward to working with my future clients to give them an interactive and practical learning experience. When I am not working, I enjoy catching up with current affairs, reading, swimming, and hiking.
